Abstract
This
district based social studies pack aims
to guide teachers to the streamlined
teaching of the social studies of a
particular region. By targeting the
specific district of Pakpattan, it
attempts to sensitize the children of
that district to the relevance of their
education to their surroundings and
lives. The pack provides teachers with
curriculum related to Pakpattan’s basic
topography, cities and population. It
seeks to make students aware of their
heritage by including Harappa, the
shrines of local saints and local
folklore extensively in the teaching
content, and also provides a timeline of
Pakpattan’s history. The pack attempts
to include aspects of social studies
that would be useful for each child in
every day life, and therefore
incorporates games, task cards and
projects that help in educating the
child according to the particular needs
of Pakpattan and also guides the teacher
on how to use these exercises to test
and educate their pupils. Consequently,
the pack contains many exercises on
farming and keeping the environment
clean. It also introduces pupils to
reading signs, newspapers and maps, and
to the importance of the fire brigade,
rescue 15 and hospitals in Pakpattan. It
seeks to familiarize students to the
notion of responsibility and making
choices and further attempts to help
students to look around them, and to
link other people, the past and the
present to their own lives. The social
studies pack forms a complete guide to
the teaching of social studies in and of
Pakpattan by combining fun activities
with education.
