A curriculum is a plan for action or a written document that includes strategies for achieving desired learning goals. It determines the aims of the education, the content and its organization, processes of teaching and learning, the activities and experiences that need to be stressed, textbooks and evaluation procedures. In Pakistan, the curriculum has undergone several revisions with the latest one of note taking place in 2006-2007. One of the hallmarks of the new curriculum was the inclusion of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for each grade and subject level. It was on the basis of these SLOs that assessments and textbooks were to be developed. In reality, textbook development has not kept pace, a concerning outcome as the textbook in Pakistan has remained the sole source of knowledge dissemination in the classroom.
